Last week I mentioned a very helpful service called Remember The Milk. Today, I decided to temporarily forward my ASU emails to my old non-ASU Gmail account. It seems the folks at RTM have been hard at work in their effort to make their services compatible with Gmail. Their latest integration with Google’s email client has forced me away from the Google Apps Gmail provided by ASU and back to my old Gmail account. Luckily it won’t be difficult to switch back to my ASU account once the new version of Gmail is available at ASU.
Ever since being exposed to RTM, I’ve wanted a similar task interface to be in my Gmail. Since I spend a lot of time in my email during the school year, it made sense to also have my tasks live in the same window. The closest I was able to get Google and RTM to talk to each other was in my Google Calendar account. That was nice to be able to view my to-do items within my calendar, but it still wasn’t exactly what I wanted. When I logged in to read my feeds this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see an early Chrismahannaqwanzikah present waiting for me.
RTM is now completely integrated with Gmail. Quoting from the announcement post at Remember the Milk:
Gmail has never had an official API that would support this, but the recent updates to Gmail also saw the launch of the experimental Gmail/Greasemonkey API. Now that it’s semi-officially supported by Gmail, we’ve decided to release something that we’ve been playing around with for a while at RTM HQ, so that everyone can enjoy it

Here’s a quick screenshot from the post to show y’all what it looks like:

This tool is a Firefox AddOn, so IE/Safari/Opera users will not be able to partake in the task list goodness quite yet. It also requires you to have the latest version of Gmail, so most Google Apps users will also not be able to benefit from this. (Hence my decision to switch from my ASU Gmail account.)

Happy task managing!
UPDATE: I just read a short post over at Lifehacker that announced a new feature for Google Apps. It’s a box you can check that enables all the new features of Google’s products at the same time they’re rolled out to the public. I’m gonna send this along to the crew at ASU. Sweet.
